A Story That Brought Spices and Flavors
McCormick is a brand that’s very close to many American families as they have been flavoring every homestyle dish at home for over 130 years already! Growing up, you may have seen these spices and seasonings scattered around the kitchen. Do you ever wonder how McCormick made a million-dollar company out of selling spices and flavorings? Well, they’ve got a rich history of doing so!
It all started in a one-room cellar in 1889 in Baltimore by a man named Willoughby M. McCormick. He first sold his products of root b*er, flavoring extracts, fruit syrups, and juices from door to door. After a successful turn of events, they ventured into a new line of products as McCormick acquired the F.G. Emmett Spice Company in Philadelphia, where they fully committed to the spice industry. And that’s how we came to know the McCormick spices.
One notable thing about McCormick is how they expanded their business by acquiring other businesses. By 1947, they acquired the A. Schilling Company with products of coffee, extracts, and spices. Acquiring the company turned out to McCormick’s advantage as they now have a broader base in the United States because of different distribution centers on both the East and West coast.

McCormick is a seasoning and spices brand that I’ve always been familiar with since my mom used to display the glass versions on our kitchen shelves. I remember feeling amazed as each spice has their different color and texture! It really looks pretty displayed on a kitchen shelf. As for the holiday finishing sugar collection, I’m quite intrigued by how it would bring flavor to my drink. I’m eyeing the Candy Cane one since I’ve never had a peppermint on my morning coffee.
