We may not bring home the bacon, but we’re sure we’ll bring home a bag of chips for us to enjoy! Let’s admit it: There are a lot of work/academic deadlines and personal goals that we need to achieve before the year ends. Times may be hard, but the only solution is to rest when you can, and why not bring a bag of chips as you binge-watch that new Netflix show you discovered?
It’s a good thing that Frito Lay’s Doritos and Lay’s have got us with their new exciting flavors we have yet to try. A little warning, though: the chips are going to flame in every bite since both of them have spicy flavors. If you’re still in to get a bag, read on!
Doritos
We’re getting some chef creations in a bag of chips format, and we wouldn’t want you to miss it. This season, not only is turkey getting seasoned, but so are your Doritos chips. That’s right; they’re rolling out once again with a new limited-edition flavor of Spicy Tropical Fusion that was created by three Master Chef alumni:
- Chef Minh Phat – Cantonese-Vietnamese (Red Chilies)
- Chef Siobhan Detkavich – Hawaiian (Pineapple Flavor)
- Chef Andre Bhagwandat – Jamaican (Jerk Spices)
According to Master Chef alumni Andre Bhagwandat, Doritos Canada asked them to team up with them for a new chef fusion series. It’s a limited-time program that brings three chefs together to create a new fusion of flavors that’s inspired by each of the chef’s heritage flavors. After pulling inspiration, they developed a design system with the iconic Doritos logo, along with traditional colors and native florals of their countries that tell a story.

The comment sections were filled with positive remarks, congratulating Bhagwandat and the two other chefs. Some were in shock that Doritos Canada tapped them to create a chip that was highly inspired by the flavors of their country.
Food blogger Junkfood Junction reports that the flavors will combine red chilies, pineapple, and jerk spices. They shared that the chips were available at Walmart Canada based on the photos sent to them. The comment section was filled with delight, but one commenter hoped that they would be available in US stores soon.

Although there are no signs that the flavor will make its way to the US soon, Doritos revealed that they’re bringing back the fan-favorite discontinued Gucamole flavor after its 20-year hiatus, so US fans better rejoice.
In case you don’t know, they were introduced in 2003 and discontinued in 2006. The guacamole flavor is expected to hit the shelves by 2025.

Lays
Nashville Hot Chicken lovers, here’s a chip flavor that’s made just for you. Lays is bringing back a limited-edition flavor that fans love, and it’s no other than Nashville Hot Chicken flavor. It’s a spicy and savory flavor that’s already causing commotion in the online community.
Food blogger Snackolator reports that they spotted the chips at Albertson’s and Kroger’s, so they’re most definitely available at other stores now. The commenters were happy that their favorite flavor would hit the shelves once again.
While people are excited for its return, there are others who say that there’s nothing special about them and that they were so bad that they couldn’t finish them. They said that there’s no one who can make the right Nashville Hot Chicken flavor. Still, the negative comments were drowned by the positive ones, so don’t get discouraged to try them and see for yourself whether it’s worth the hype.

The flavor was originally introduced back in 2020 as part of Lay’s “Flavor Icons” collection that recreates iconic restaurant dishes in potato chip form. Other flavors that debuted during that time are the following:
- Chile Relleno
- Philly Cheesesteak
- New York Style Pizza kettle chips
- Carnitas Street Taco wavy chips

From The Club
I’m loving Frito Lay’s spicy new offerings from Doritos and Lay’s as someone who’s a spicy chip fan. I haven’t tasted any chef-special chips, so I’m pretty excited about Doritos’ Spicy Tropical Fusion, as it combines both the sweetness of pineapple and spices from red chilies and jerk spices. As for Lay’s, the Nashville Hot Chicken flavor is a genius since it’s a dish that’s popular among many of us. Actually, its entire “Flavor Icons” collection is a genius for recreating iconic restaurant dishes in potato chips.
