Get in, bestie, we’re grabbing a pack of upgraded chips from Frito-Lays!
With the rising prices of all goods, sometimes we no longer reach out to our favorite food brands on the grocery shelves. And if we do, not only we see the golden price tag, but we’re also surprised at how small the portions became. Welcome to shrinkflation, where goods and snacks are getting more expensive, and if prices remain the same, food portions will be getting smaller. Good thing, some food brands understand customer frustration and create options for their satisfaction.
To help snack lovers navigate through Shrinkflation era, PepsiCo (a.k.a. FritoLays’ parent company) is making a big upgrade to their offerings. During an earnings call, the brand announced that it’s creating FritoLays “bonus packs” featuring 20% more products for some of their fan favorite chips. During the call, PepsiCo further emphasized its suitability especially for the current NFL season when customers are buying more finger foods during football game days.
FritoLay’s New Ruffles and Tostitos Bonus Packs
For now, it’s still unclear what the bonus packs will look like, but one thing’s for sure: Ruffles and Tostitos will be in the mix. We’re still wondering if the “bonus packs” will be labelled as it is in the packaging, or will the chips only have 20% more chips during the football season, then slowly revert to their small size after the season.

Jamie Caulfield, the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of PepsiCo revealed that right now, the brand is focused on customers and they are stimulating demand. Plus, they also stated that as business accelerates, then they can put a little “emphasis on managing the margin”. This somehow means that if they see success in driving demand for the FritoLay chips, there’s a possibility that chips can be pricey again, or the bonus chips can disappear from grocery shelves.
For now, we should all be on the lookout for these bonus packs from FritoLay, somehow it may be one of the best snack deals we can grab to enjoy the most of the NFL game day season. But if you’re not the type to go out of your budget, it’s recommendable to still make price comparisons and be informed of price changes and other purchasing factors, which varies from week to week.

From The Club
There’s really a prevailing shrinkflation trend in food and most items in grocery stores. Somehow, it’s the only way to keep the brands afloat, instead of raising prices and leaving customers the option to turn away from the brand. But I hope other food brands and companies would also consider the idea of “Bonus Packs”, even if it’s only for a season, I’d grab them immediately. I guess that’s better than having no deals at all.
