Everyone keeps a mint in their bags as it helps keep our breath fresh throughout the day. Its sweet and minty taste gives us an extra confidence booster, especially when we’re faced with people who you could potentially talk with. Leave it all up at the city that never sleeps.
Get yourself a new ALTOIDS Breath Mint pack as they unveil their limited edition collectible tin can with New York City restaurant Bad Roman. This is inspired by Gen Z’s love for collecting restaurant matchbooks or the knick-knacks that they stash in their bags. The collaboration with a trendy New York restaurant is a cool memorabilia that you can keep if you’re a tourist. This is something quite different since these tin can mints are sold for a limited time only.
The design features Altoids’ classic peppermint tin with the brand logo paired with Bad Roman’s serpentine design. Could it be any more perfect?

Maria Urista, Vice President of Gum and Mints at Mars Wrigley North America, introduced Altoids as a strong mint candy with iconic tin cans. Most customers reuse their tin cans for another Altoids pack, or they just keep some for their collections. Urista added that through their partnership with Bad Roman, they’re showcasing the power that mints have by creating a unique memento for Bad Roman’s guests.
But if you can’t visit New York City, don’t worry; you can still get your Bad Roman-themed thin cans online! New York City-based retailer Big Night, a one-stop-shop for dinner parties, will release the “Comes on Strong” gift box that is inspired by ALTOIDS’ collaboration with Bad Roman. In every box, fans can get a complimentary limited-edition ALTOIDS x Bad Roman tin of mints. These gift boxes are available nationwide online only at shopbignight.com and in-store at two of Big Night’s New York City locations.

What Makes ALTOIDS Special?
These mints in a thin can are well-known to many of us, as ALTOIDS is one of those who started this trend of mint candy. They were created by London-based Smith & Company in 1780 but shifted to Callard & Bowser during the 19th century. Their slogan, “The Original Celebrated Curiously Strong Mints,” is pretty well-known to us. Still, if you don’t know, it refers to the high concentration of peppermint oil used in the original flavor of lozenge. And yes, they were originally marketed as lozenges to relieve intestinal discomfort.
Check out the varieties of ALTOIDS throughout the years.
Mints
Probably the most popular and longstanding ALTOIDS product, the mint comes in five flavors: Peppermint, Wintergreen, Arctic, Cinnamon, and Spearmint. The tin cans that come along with it are reused for other purposes making them an iconic feature of the ALTOIDS brand name.

Sours
Remember those ALTOIDS sour-hard sweets you used to have as a kid? They were discontinued in 2010, but they are now making a comeback! Using the same ingredients of the nostalgic candy, Iconic Candy steps in as they release the new Retro Sours, which come in the following flavors:
- Mango (comes in a sour variant)
- Tangerine (comes in sour variant)
- Citrus (comes in sour variant)

Gum
Another nostalgic ALTOIDS candy is the gum variants, which also come in flavors from the mint. They also have two sour flavors which are cherry and apple. It hasn’t been seen in stores since 2010.
Strips
Does any one of you remember the thin paper menu strips that also serve the same purpose as mints? These strips are melt-in-your-mouth pieces, and they come in flavors of cinnamon and peppermint. They were discontinued in 2003.

From The Club
I’m one of those people who always has to have a mint candy in their bags. I remembered buying Hello Kitty tin cans to hold my candies in so knowing that ALTOIDS is actually one of the pioneers of tin can candies is cool. I would love to have the Bad Roman ones although it will be memorable if I get it as a little memorabilia from my trip to New York! 🤣
