The year of soda is coming. After the announcements of Pepsi, Dr Pepper, and Coca-Cola regarding their new sodas for 2025, another brand is making a buzz because of its upcoming release. Joining the companies that will take the soda experience to the next level is A&W. Yes, the brand we know and love for their root beer. They’re celebrating their legacy by releasing a new soda flavor that will intrigue both soda afficionados and dessert lovers.
Snack enthusiast and blogger @snackolator broke the news about A&W’s latest drop last December 19, 2024 via Facebook. The post says that A&W is welcoming 2025 with the new Ice Cream Sundae Soda! This product is expected to be released early 2025 and will feature the A&W Root Beer we all know and love. Of course, it will also have the delectable flavors of an ice cream sundae. So think flavors from vanilla ice cream, and hopefully chocolate syrup and cherries.
The A&W Ice Cream Sundae Soda will reportedly be available in regular and zero sugar options, making soda fans even more excited. Below the Facebook post, one quipped that she’s going to find and try the new drink. Also, rumor has it that the Ice Cream Sundae Soda will be sold in 20-oz bottles and 12-oz cans.
More Beverages to Try from A&W
While waiting for the exciting new flavor drop from A&W, why not have a sip of the brand’s current offerings? To be honest, A&W’s beverage lineup is pretty limited so you might end up trying both of these:
- A&W’s Original Root Beer – This classic soda carries a vanilla flavor, often described as having a slightly burnt caramel flavor. The root beer taste also comes from the herbal flavor of sarsaparilla. You might have tried this drink multiple times already but nothing beats the classic, right? The original root beer flavor of A&W is available in regular and zero sugar variations.
- A&W’s Cream Soda – Meanwhile, this soda features an all-American classic flavor, made with aged vanilla. One fan described this drink to have one of the most “angelic” tastes ever. The smooth vanilla taste combines with the frothy texture of the drink. Also available in regular and zero sugar options.

Other Sodas Launching in 2025
We’re not kidding when we said that 2025 is going to be the year of sodas. If you want to keep yourself updated on the upcoming releases in the soda world, watch out for these items:
- Dr Pepper Blackberry – In the latter part of January 2025, Dr Pepper’s newest soda flavor, Blackberry, is set to be released. Fans expect it to have a slightly similar flavor profile with Dr Pepper Dark Berry, but hopefully much better!
- Crush’s Electric Blue Razz Soda – This new soda from Crush promises to transport you back to the 80s. It carries a flavor profile that’s wildly popular in the 80s and has a can art featuring vaporwave aesthetics and neon elements.
- Sprite + Tea – You no longer have to steep your tea bags in a lemon-lime soda because Sprite + Tea is coming to the soda aisle near you! Despite tea having caffeine, Sprite claims that their latest soda will be caffeine-free (as per its packaging).
- Coca-Cola Orange Cream – Also in 2025, we might have an orange creamsicle in soda format. The Coca-Cola Orange Cream will be available in regular and zero sugar options, and has been called the successor of the brand’s discontinued Orange Vanilla.

From The Club
I’ll be honest. One of the soda flavors I’m looking forward to next year is A&W‘s Ice Cream Sundae, and I really do hope it carries the flavor profile of a true sundae. If ever that happens, I guess I can say goodbye to making my own root beer float. I also love that the new soda will be available in zero sugar. Gotta choose the one with fewer calories whenever possible!
