Have a break…and take a look at these 15 strangest flavors of Kit Kat.
A confectionery company once dreamed of having a snack that could be taken to work and easily broken to pieces. That’s where Kit Kat’s story began. Back then, the snack bar only had one flavor, the classic milk chocolate. But when Kitk Kat became a global hit, its lineup of flavors expanded.
In the US, Kit Kat offers everyday flavors as well as seasonal ones. In Japan, however, you’ll find more than 300 iterations of the chocolate bar. Ever wondered why? The word is that in Japan, Kit Kat is marketed as a gift and good luck charm because the brand name sounds like “kitto katsu,” which means “You’ll definitely win!” in Japanese. That’s why, this roundup post will show you lots of flavors originating from Japan. But to make sure we’re covering all our bases, we’re throwing in other seemingly odd flavors from other countries.
Let’s take a trip around the world with strange Kit Kat flavors!
15. Edamame Milkshake

We’re starting off the list with a Kit Kat flavor released in Japan, also known as “Zunda” Kit Kat. Zunda is a lightly sweet paste usually made with edamame. You’ll often find it atop mochi, which is another tasty snack in Japan. This reputation most likely made Zunda a great addition to a Kit Kat bar.
Those who have tried the Edamame Milkshake flavor described a taste that’s similar to white chocolate. Others did say that it tasted like Zunda, only sweeter because it’s paired with chocolate instead of mochi.

14. Fruity Cereal

This version of Kit Kat is basically a breakfast food. Available in the US, Kit Kat Fruity Cereal is as nostalgic as it is tasty! It packs the familiar flavors from all-time favorite cereals like Froot Loops and Fruity Pebbles. The limited-edition Kit Kat Fruity Cereal has flavor notes of lemon, orange, and lime. The creme covering the wafers is warm pink in color—an attractive option if you’re looking for cupcake toppers!

13. Lemon Crisp

In 2020, a limited-time flavor of Kit Kat was released in the US to celebrate spring and Easter. The Lemon Crisp Kit Kat didn’t have a trace of milk chocolate in it. Instead, every bite gave a punch of flavor reminiscent of lemon meringue pie. The crisp wafers were coated in a lemon-flavored creme that was both sweet and fruity.
Oddly enough, it was refreshing and delightful, according to those who were able to try. Others said it tasted like girl scout lemon cookies in candy form. Kit Kat Lemon Crisp was a hit, and until now, many fans patiently await its return.

12. Kit Kat Packed with MILO

MILO is a chocolate malt drink powder and a staple in Australian homes, as well as those in Southeast Asia and Africa. However, this flavor of Kit Kat is mostly available in Australian food shops. The crisp wafer is packed with soft MILO filling and everything is coated in smooth milk chocolate. The chocolatey flavor is available as a Kit Kat Bar, Kit Kat Block (11 rows of wafer), and Kit Kat Chunky (1 thick wafer finger).
For those who aren’t familiar, MILO is like the Southeast Asian Nesquik. It’s basically a mix of milk chocolate and malt, and isn’t very sweet unless prepared with a lot of extra sugar. This is probably why people thought that Kit Kat MILO didn’t have enough “MILO.” The malty taste was meant to be subtle.

11. Mint + Dark Chocolate

This Kit Kat flavor is probably inspired by the successful combination of mint and chocolate chip in ice creams. To be honest, it’s odd, but it also works. But what about in Kit Kat bars?
Kit Kat DUOS Dark Chocolate and Mint offers a mashup of two iconic flavors: dark chocolate and mint. The wafers are coated with mint creme on top and rich dark chocolate on the bottom. Overall, it will remind you of Andes Mints, which are mint-flavored treats sandwiched between two cocoa-based layers.

9. Summer Mango

If the lemon flavor worked for Kit Kat, why not mango? This summer edition flavor came from Japan, and it featured mango-flavored white chocolate coating. More refreshing flavors await inside as you bite into the Alphonso mango cream filling in between the crispy wafers. Fruit flavors may not be common in Kit Kat bars, but they seem to pair well with the classic wafers!

8. Wasabi

Does this treat belong to the “Swicy” trend? 🤣 Kidding aside, this Wasabi-flavored Kit Kat promises a chocolate bar with hints of wasabi’s bold, spicy flavor. According to fans, it has the slight taste of Wasabi’s horseradish flavor on the first bite, but then afterwards, all you get is the white chocolate flavor. There’s no real heat from this one, so wasabi lovers are going to be disappointed; those with low spice tolerance will be relieved!

5. Sakura Japanese Sake

Another novelty product from Japan is the Sakura Japanese Sake Kit Kat flavor. This product balances the light floral flavor of Cherry Blossoms and the tiny kick of Sake. The wafers have that whiff of sweetness and a light pink color that’s reminiscent of the spring season. It’s important to note, though, that this flavor reportedly has 0.07% alcohol content, so you may want to skip this if you don’t drink alcohol or if you want something that’s kid-friendly. Overall, it’s more sweet than boozy.

4. DUOS Mocha and Chocolate

We love the combination of mocha and chocolate in drinks, so I’m expecting this one to be a great flavor. Mocha itself has a luxurious vibe and can be described as “chocolatey coffee,” so expect the Mocha + Chocolate Kit Kat to be sweeter than the others. Even without a coffee, you’ll surely enjoy your break with this snack as every bite gives you a combination of mocha creme and chocolate flavors plus coffee bits.

If you’re into desserts with a sweet-salty flavor, you’ll love this Kit Kat flavor. Ocean Salt Kit Kat hails from Japan, combining white chocolate and sea salt from the Seto Inland Sea.
The sweet chocolate and hint of salt works well together, which isn’t that much of a surprise. Because have you tried anything with peanut butter and chocolate? They, too, have that sweet-salty combo. Another unique thing about the Ocean Salt Kit Kat is that it comes in a special packaging that can be used to form a sea turtle origami after use.

1. Witch’s Brew

Now, our top Kit Kat flavor is a perfect treat for Halloween! Kit Kat Witch’s Brew is a spooky-themed candy bar with a coating of marshmallow-flavored creme. The wafers are in the color of enchanting green, and those who were mesmerized said that it’s the second best Kit Kat flavor next to mint. However, others believe that the coating tastes more like white chocolate than marshmallow, which isn’t so bad!
Kit Kat Witch’s Brew has also been described as “warty” but in terms of texture and taste, it’s almost like Rice Krispy Treats, which are addicting! The look, feel, and taste make it a great decoration for your Halloween baked goods. You can just also add it to candy bowls; I’m sure the kids and kids-at-heart will love the color and sweetness coming through the wafers!

From The Club
You can tell how well-loved the Kit Kat brand is just by looking at their footprint outside the US and the countless flavors they have. Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive, and what’s strange to us may not be that unusual for others. But I think we can agree on the fact that the Witch’s Brew looks downright odd. Nevertheless, the marshmallow creme might make you take a longer break…And before I forget, it could be difficult to find all these Kit Kat flavors as most of them are seasonal and limited-time offerings. Still, don’t lose hope! I’m leaving you with the words: kitto katsu!
